Julia Suzuki has a passion for gemology and it is a hobby of hers to study the deeper meanings of the stones.
Julia was first inspired by her Grandmother, Pauline Alicia, a very glamourous lady who Julia recalls was the most wonderful singer and particularly enchanting. Pauline Alicia had an esquisite range of stones that she always wore, her favourite being her blue topaz and turquoise gemstone rings.
“I would gaze admiringly at them as a young girl. I have always loved jewellery, but my real love of gemstones started when I was a late teenager when my Grandmother bought me the most beautiful aqua-marine ring. It was as clear as swimming pool blue and I remember her saying that aqua marines are an attractor stone. It certainly acquired many comments. I then started reading books and reading about the ones that caught my attention and started collecting stones that appealed to me”.
Julia recalls how she loved Diana’s blue sapphire when she first became engaged to Charles, and read that it is said to be the actual stone of success in fame, celebrity and stardom.
Diamonds are of course the widest known stone and valued but industry governed by cartel-marketed and governed to inflate pricing. The diamond according to gemology is a magnifier, ie it will magnify positive of negative that exists somewhere or the power of other stones worn. Pink sapphires for instance (which are now increasingly popular as an alternative to diamonds) are said to bring stability and faithfulness to a relationship. There are so many beautiful stones from the red ruby said to bring positive thinking and confidence to the green emerald to bolster friendships. One of Julia’s favourite stones is the yellow citrine quartz, the sunshine stone that stimulates the mind in winter months.
“There are dozens and dozens of gemstones and I am always learning as a lifetime quest. I enjoy giving the gift of a gemstone to people I meet, its something that they always seem to welcome and I like to think it adds to their feeling of wellbeing that someone cares enough to give them their stone too”.
Julia’s love of gems was also inspiration for the first of her books “Yoshiko and the Gift of charms” where the dragon Yoshiko uses the power of the stones to heal the clans from their problems.
